“I Forgive You”

Here’s an update on how the mediation with my fifth graders is going. So far, I’m really proud of them.

At 10:15 every morning, those students in my class who have been behaving are allowed to take a fifteen minute break. Breaks typically mean that the boys run around outside, climb on something dangerous, or just beat each other up. But today, when only one of my boys was in the position to actually get a break, I looked out the classroom window after a few minutes and saw this:

A is getting pretty good at "going within." I've heard him say "I forgive you" to numerous boys who have struck him instead of hitting back.
